The 2016 Ballon d'Or ceremony is here and for the eighth year running, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are battling it out for the most coveted prize in world football.
While Messi has won the trophy five times, Real Madrid forward Ronaldo has managed to lift the trophy on three occasions during his successful career, but that could, and is expected, to change this evening.
Unfortunately, It has become the norm to overshadow fellow nominees when it comes to the Ballon d'Or, so we thought it was necessary to celebrate those who have received nominations in the past, but are often pushed to one side.
